The Arden Bespoke Engineering team has worked on various projects in the past, and it brings a wide variety of expertise to the table. Below are a few projects that we have contributed to during our careers.

Automotive

Single-seater race car

This sub-200kg race car was developed and built for the 2021 edition of the Formula Student UK competition when one of our team members was the Technical Director of the Edinburgh University Formula Student Team.

While managing the car’s design and manufacture, he also developed a lap time simulator to help assess the car’s performance.

This is just one of the 4 race cars that he has contributed to.

Aerospace

Small form quadcopter

The main focus of this project was the flight controller. Most of the parts are off-the-shelf, but the brain of the drone is an Arduino Nano running bespoke code developed from the ground up.

With the aid of reverse engineering, a 3D model was developed to help the control system’s development, and to accommodate the necessary sensors, bespoke 3D-printed elements were used on this build.

Off-highway

Tracked excavator

To help develop novel hydraulic system architectures, one of our team members has developed a multi-domain model of a tracked excavator.

The model captures the behaviour of the engine and the hydraulic system, as well as the dynamics and kinematics of the excavator.

In the video, the model is repeating a standard duty cycle used for assessing excavator efficiency. The only inputs to the model were the operator’s joystick commands.
